When Gnome tryies to auto-configure the printer with the Foomatic driver, there is always this message:

you may need to install the hpijs package from the repos first. You can also just try the hpijs-pcl5e driver. I've installed all of these packages before trying to configure the printer with the Foomatic driver. Yum install foomatic foomatic-db-filesystem foomatic-filters gutenprint-foomatic foomatic-db foomatic-db-ppds
#Gutenprint filter failed error drivers#
But unfortunately the two drivers do not work correctly with my printer: The first (Foomatic) has incorrect page borders and the second (HPIJS) does not support all printer options (for example toner saving)
#Gutenprint filter failed error free#
Of course I always try to choose a free driver/software wherever possible. With the last two drivers I get this error message (in '/var/log/cups/error_log'):Į Unable to execute /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip: No such file or directoryĮ Unable to start filter "foomatic-rip" - No such file or directory.Į Stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter.įirst, you should always check to see if you can get printers working with packages from the repos first, before downloading directly. (This driver worked much better than the Foomatic driver mentioned above.) Post added at 10:47 AM - Previous post was at 10:30 AM -Īnother driver that worked with F13 - 'Brother HL-2030 Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e' - has stopped working with my printer in F15. With exactly the same driver I was able to print in F13 but the page borders were so wrong that I preferred to use the proprietary drivers. I've tried to use the 'Brother HL-2030 Foomatic/hl1250' driver about an hour ago, but it did not work. Have a look at this thread () and see if anything helps (and good luck :)) file:///home/lausanne/.sylpheed-2.0/mimetmp/ The correct printer is called 'brother_hl-2030'.)Ģ.

(The 'HL2030' diver was added automatically, and I removed it because it did not find any PPD file. I've attached '/var/log/cups/error_log' (LogLevel debug) - perhaps it helps solving this problem. If someone has an idea to solve my problem, please let me know - I would be very thankful! Furthermore, when trying to print a document in Abiword or Sylpheed, the printer warms up, but it does not print.

Strangely, using Firefox, I am able to print for example the Fedora forum or Distrowatch homepage, or some on-line newspaper articles, but I am not able to print a local HTML page (for example ). Printing the test page worked fine, but now, as usual user and as root, too, I am not able to print for example with Abiword, Gedit, Sylpheed and other applications. The printer was correctly recognised (connection via USB). Then, I configured the driver in my browser ('localhost:631'). As usual, I downloaded the proprietary drivers from the Brother home-page and installed them. After a fresh installation of F15, my Brother HL-2030 printer does not work anymore (means it worked fine with previous Fedora versions).
